I remember Kate very well as Walter Jackson Bate's trusty teaching assistant in his course at Harvard on Samuel Johnson, early 1970s. She was a paragon of patience, which must have been difficult in view of Bate's notoriously misogynistic persona. I recall Kate's thoughtful comments on student papers & blue books. Bate didn't bother himself much (if at all) with such things.
