Joe was a dear colleague and a warm and gracious person. He loved his family more than anything else. I will miss him!

Joe's engaging smile, personal warmth and love for pursuing -- and telling -- stories brightened The Herald's newsroom and my own professional life for many years. Enthusiastic and hard-working, he gave full measure of his great heart to the paper, to the Monterey Peninsula, and above all, to his beloved wife and daughter Nicole.
