I worked under Joan at Small Friends 2003- 2004.  I later was a part of an interim director’s team with Joan  for Small Friends in 2013.  I learned a lot from Joan.  She was a mentor to me.  She did so much for children and for Small Friends.  The building the school is in now would not have happened without her.  Most importantly Joan was my friend.  I will miss her.  Rest in peace, Joan.

When I was organist and choir director at the UU Church on Nantucket, Joan and her husband Les were supportive members who became my friends. I enjoyed visiting with them on Nantucket and also in Cambridge. Joan was a gracious person, smart, and warm, and a great cook. She was interesting to talk to and had a big heart and great determination. She loved to help. I am so glad I knew her!
