I was fortunate enough to know Howard for over 40 years. During those 40 years I witnessed a man with a gentle soul who would do anything for you no matter the time of day, year, weather, late at night, etc. Howard was at your service if you needed him and it was always with a smile. I loved the way he respected women and how he loved and admired his wife, Roberta. A gentle soul was he.

My late husband Charlie Hall and I were lucky to meet Howard & Roberta soon after they came to Santa Cruz. They were enthusiastic patrons for decades of my music festival, Santa Cruz Baroque Festival, and familiar figures in the audience. Howard was especially knowledgable and appreciative of the early music we presented, and he always came from a deep and natural kindness in his remarks.
