Helaine was one of those people you could lose touch with for 25 years and, when you found each other again, feel as though you had spoken only yesterday.
Bruce and I first met Helaine more than 40 years ago, and over the years we shared so much fun, laughter, friendship, and many wonderful memories with Helaine and Fran. She was smart, sassy, funny, warm, and joyful, with a wonderful ability to make good-natured fun of the people around her—and herself as well.
Even during her incredibly difficult 3½-year battle with cancer, Helaine was still Helaine. She could kvetch about what she was going through, but she somehow managed to do it with humor. And despite everything she was facing, she never failed to ask about Bruce and the rest of my family.
I am so grateful that Helaine and I found our way back to each other after so many years apart. She was truly one of a kind, and I will miss her very much.
My love and deepest sympathy to Fran and everyone who loved her.
Helaine was my boss at Lahey Clinic, we formed a friendship that continued after both of us moved on to other organizations and retirement. I treasured our lunches and conversations which were often filled with laughter. As she battled cancer contact was reduced to telephone and email where she would relate her medical woes but her humor and fun still came out loud and clear.
