Entered into rest January 31, 2017, at the age of 77.

Duane was born in Santa Clara, California on December 27, 1939.  He devoted his life to teaching young minds and earned a master’s degree from Santa Clara University in 1976. His career spanned over 50 years of teaching elementary school in California and Nevada.  In 2010 he was named "Educator of the Year" by the Cathedral City Chamber of Commerce for his work in the Palm Springs Unified School District. Duane was making the best of his retirement by doing what he loved: gardening, raising birds, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

He and his late wife, Eva, had two children (Duane and Aaron) and three grandchildren (Nathan, Evan, and Melinda). His generous spirit and loving charm will remain in the hearts of all he has touched.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, February 15.  Rosary and Funeral Mass at 10am at Five Wounds Portuguese National Church, 1375 E. Santa Clara Street, San Jose.  Graveside service to follow at 12:30pm at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, 490 Lincoln Street, Santa Clara.
