Donations in Drew’s memory may be made to the Southern Poverty Law Center, National Public Radio or the Cancer Society.
Bruce and I spent many hours with Drew when he and Bruce were fighting Alameda County in a Building Dept issue. Drew was such a smart man, talented man, and pleasure to be with. He will be missed! Bruce and I would like to attend his memorial. Please email me with details, jatobia47@att.net
I just learned of Drew's passing and am deeply saddened. I played lead guitar with Drew in the Big Dog Band. Drew could whip any crowd into a frenzy with his stage banter. We ended most nights with Will The Circle be Unbroken, I still play it and will have fond memories of Drew when I do. RIP
My heart goes out to Charlotte and each of his family.
I know he was a great joy in your life.
On January 7, 2017, a celebration of Drew's life was held in Hayward, CA at Mission Hills golf course restaurant. Drew spent many days (almost every Sunday for more than a decade, health and weather permitting) at the course, where he was well known and liked.
With 60-70 family and friends attending, Drew was well remembered by those who knew and loved him.
Many thanks to all who attended our celebration of Drew, and especially to EVERYONE who helped make this event a wonderful tribute to my brother, Drew.
We will never forget you, Drew...and, you're still the coolest guy in the room.
I just learned of Drew's death 2 days ago from Randy at our 50th Class reunion. Drew was such a fun kid, always smiling. I met Drew at Pacific when my bbf Linda Babbino was with Drew. Drew, Linda, Mickey Meyers, Bruce Kane, Gary Wilkersen hug around tightly together. Piled into my 5 seater Mercury Comet many times for rides home in the rain with Karen Denham. May peace be with you
Dear Drew, Thank you letting me be in your band, in the years 1966-1969. It was great fun assisting you with our repertoire of about 75 songs. (I am sorry that I was not a better guitar player.) Thank you for showing me your large format 4X5 camera, in the year 1990. Since that time, I bought my own large format 4X5 camera, and have had 1-man exhibitions of landscape photography from Death Valley, Joshua Tree National Park, California Coastline, and waterfalls in Hawaii. It was nice connecting with you again, in early 2009, at your birthday-party supper with your brothers at your favorite Italian restaurant in Castro Valley. Everybody knows that you are a gentleman, and have a gentle disposition. So many people love you. On Jan. 7, 2017, I attended a meeting that was held in Drew's honor. The meeting was at the cafe at Mission Hills Golf Course in Hayward, CA. I counted about 60 people. An exhibit of many objects was on a long table by the south wall, and the objects included a hand-made electric guitar that Drew had completed. It was a perfect replica of a Fender bass guitar. Also on display, was a hand-made electric guitar. Some of Drew's business cards from his hazardous materials (hazmat) occupation were on display, as were soft-cover bound compilations of fiction from his earlier days at Chabot College. The compilations included some of Drew's stories. Also on display was a marble and metal trophy, which was awarded to Drew's rock'n'roll group, Fellowship of the Ring. Drew's band performed at dozens of locations, including Rollarena on East 14th Street, Pacific High School, John Muir High School, San Leandro High School, Weeks Park in Hayward, Bayfair Mall, and so on.
Hey Drew!
Today is your 70th birthday! Imagine that?
So much to tell you and talk about.
And what would you have been up to this year? I wonder all the time.
Miss you, Drew.
