Dan was my initial instrument flight instructor and we had many flights together after I passed my checkride in 9737Q, a Beechcraft Sierra. He showed me quite a few things in particular how to get what I needed from ATC if denied on the initial request. How? Wait until another controller came on or for the next section and then just ask again. Rest in peace Dan.
I first met Dan when I worked at KKSJ/KBAY in San Jose. The daily line up was Dan in the morning, Bud Kelly mid days and Gentleman Jim Lange afternoons. I worlked mostly on the FM aide, and filled in on the AM when needed.
A wonderful mentor, friend, and dammit, G-d has brought a wonderfully talent, and warm real human being to His side....
I met Dan through a mutual friend when Dan was working in Chicago at WCFL and he had a very popular morning-drive radio program. He had a fabulous sense of humor, and a large personality. I remember him fondly. I'm sure he brightened a lot of lives.
After the loss of my leg and functional recovery i met Dan online. I had an aeronautical background and happily took his offer of a flight, whereupon he and Jody treated me to lunch at Harris Ranch. I never met a more positive influence for amputees. I am a peer visitor now as well. Love and God bless you in your liss Jody.
