I was only around for a few years at the end of Chris's tenure at BU. But every morning when the Starbucks opened at Warren Towers we'd catch up before class and always have at least one laugh before the day got rolling. He led the good life of an educator with many lives touched by his efforts. He'd deny it, but it's true. Gone too soon. My best to his family.
A friend since college and always ‘CB’ to me, he was one great guy! CB knew he hit the jackpot marrying my dear roommate - their sons were his deepest pride. CB’s big, embracing personality always made me smile even when I couldn’t keep apace with him. I will miss my friend. Deepest condolences and much love to his family.
Chris was always smiling. He would stop by my office on the way to the copy machine----and he would always say something that made me laugh or ask me how I was doing. I can't say how much his little visits brightened my days--his warmth, his pride when he talked about his kids, his humor, his big energetic strides all over COM. We'll miss him.
I was lucky to be in Chris' Principles and Practices of Advertising Program in 2008, and his energy & enthusiasm helped me commit to pursue the degree. He was an excellent mentor and a good friend. We were just in touch a few weeks ago. I am so sorry to hear of his loss - he impacted so many of us in the Advertising program. His influence will be missed by many.
Chris and I were at TCS together. He was a great one for nicknames
And the one he gave me lasted through all my years at TCS. I remember him fondly. My condolences to his family
Chris was once my professor, then my mentor, then my boss & finally my friend. Chris supported every single student as if they were going to make a change to the industry and the world that no one else could. He was smiling, laughing, making jokes but also serious about helping his students, his employees and his friends succeed. He connected people of all walks of life & inspired so many.
In fall of 2017, I enrolled in Professor Cakebread’s Principles & Practices of Advertising course and settled in for a semester of dry humor and excellent debates about what makes an ad good (hint: it’s always the insight). A great teacher and an even greater mentor, he helped affirm my decision to come grad school and pursue a career in advertising. I can never thank him enough.
We went back a long time , Trinity College School . We played music together in several bands . First , the Electric Rope Blues Band at TCS . Later , in Toronto the Buddy Armstrong Explosion , then in Guelph the Northern Light Blues Band . He was energetic and always positive . A wonderful person to have known .
I had Prof Cakebread in spring, 92. His lone grad student in class, we had a lot in common outside the classroom (music, hockey, etc), and became friends. Chris was a tremendous person, a loyal friend who made a lasting impact on everyone he met. At least now he can talk hockey again with Jack Falla. Karen, Brian, and Tim, I am there for you. God Speed Chris.
I was lucky enough to work with Chris and got a chance to see what a great man he was. He was kind, funny, quickwitted, and always making me laugh. I will miss him dearly and wanted to extend my sympathy to his family.
Feeling extremely lucky to have been one of Professor Cakebread's student. He was a mentor to us. I remember the day I got an email from him congratulating my group and me on, what he called, "a masterful project." It meant so much to me- I immediately sent it to my family and my grandmother framed it and she has it in her house. He taught us about kindness, respect, and support.
Such sad news. I reached out to CB 2 years ago b/c I was taking my daughter to see schools in Boston. It was great catching up with CB. I could not believe it when he said, "I remember it was cold and raining during your graduation." I graduated in 1990 and he was right! I will fondly recall his humor and engaging nature.
Professor Cakebread was an amazing professor, friend and mentor. I always enjoyed class with him and especially enjoyed the friendship that grew over the years after college. I will always appreciate being able to return back to BU and speak in his class that my daughter was attending. He taught be so much and I will miss him very much. He was a very special person.
Professor Cakebread was my BU advisor and a true mentor. He directed me to my first job out of college, which laid the pathway for my career. I went back to BU for several years after graduating to speak in his classes and loved the opportunity to reconnect. I always appreciated Professor Cakebread's positive, and frank, attitude. He was a special person, teacher and leader.
