This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Carol Anne Catambay, a loving mom, grandma, friend, and gentle spirit who touched many lives. She passed peacefully at her home in San Jose on the morning of July 15, 2020, with her daughters Anne and Judy by her side.
We invite all who were touched by her to leave a tribute message, and all her knew her to leave a story. To contact the family, please email carolsfamily@excaliburworld.com.
It didn’t matter what happened - and a lot happened - she was always there for us.
She was my guiding light at every turn, my inspiration, my closest friend. I hope to be such a mom like her.
Pictures remind me of Carol's classy and knowing smile that so often graced her countenance, and which usually preceded or followed one of her dry, humorous comments. She had a very incisive wit, much like her dad. Mary and I only saw her a few times over the years, but we always enjoyed those visits.
Cousin Bill and I saw her a lot in our childhood, though she was generally occupied with her sisters and family. Interestingly, in photo 100 on the site, I am the kid on the far right, and cousin Bill Gipson is next to me with the dark hair. All the photos show how she was such an important part of her family, which is no surprise to us.
Though living far from San Jose, I still thought of Carol often, remembering as kids, being just down the street from her house. Fun times racing back and forth between the houses! I am reminded that Carol, Bill and I could also be rather mischievous, and when we finally caused enough uproar to hear Ann yell "CAROL ANNE", we would really race off in all directions to "save our lives"!
Carol truly is a warrior while facing her health challenges. She always carry that smile and positive outlook..We had good laughs during my visits with her, She loved the 49ers and loved her puzzles..I will always remember her optimism, humility and humor.
Carol was like a 2nd Mom to me. We were just like family. She was a wonderful human being. She welcomed everyone with open arms. She also gave the best hugs. When she hugged me, she gave me a feeling of comfort and love.
We were great friends before, but then we learned we had the 49ers, Horror movies, and books in common. I’ll never forget Sundays over her house watching the 49er games, getting loud both cheering and screaming at the TV. I can remember the first Super Bowl win like it was yesterday. I was so honored that she picked me to make the toast to the 49ers.
Carol also ended up meeting and becoming friends with my Mom. I’m not sure if I told her children, but before my Mom passed, she had told me that Carol was the best friend she ever had.
My heart has a crater in the shape of you, Mom. The strength, optimism and sheer determination you instilled in me will help heal and nurture that hole. Life will never be the same. Thank you for everything you have done for me and my two boys (and all my pets), Mom. We love you.
Knocked the wind out of me when I read a former coworker passed along.
I worked with Carol for years at Fisher Scientific.
She was the sweetest lady.
Had a witty personality and hilarious sense of humor.
She will be fondly remembered.
May god keep his hand on her family
I was deeply saddened to hear of Carol's passing. She was a funny lady as I knew her at work several years ago. And even though she left the company we tried to keep in touch by meeting for lunch or going to the movies. Life got busy and we stopped connecting but I still remember her and liked her a lot. My heart goes out to her family and friends and hope you will all be blessed by God.
Happy Birthday Mom!
Bill and all of the family. So very sorry for your Mom's passing. A terribly sad time again. After receiving your call I reflected on the many fun times of the parties and get togethers at yours and our homes. Of course you know that your Mom and Shirley were BFFs. Up there they still are. She will be missed by all of us.
Happy Birthday mom. Not a minute passes that I do not miss you. Every morning, I breathe through the pain and then your love shines in my heart, and I feel lucky that you have always been there lighting up my world.
Happy Birthday Mom! Holding on to your light as best as I can. Oh how I miss your warm smile, your wisdom in every situation, your soft hugs, your beautiful voice, and laughing together. I miss everything about you, everyday. Love you Mom.
Dear Lord, thank you for the gift of earthly life, especially for the life of our mom. Thank you for all the years we enjoyed with her. She stood with us through the good times and the bad. We cherish the memories of times of joy and times of sorrow. She is now at rest with you. We ask You, the Lord of Peace, to give us peace at all times and in every way. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
