I met Bernd when I was a young recruiter in the biotech pharma industry in the early 1980's. He was a gracious teacher and mentor as I developed my (superficial) knowledge of chemistry/drug discovery. I will always remember his huge smile and his towering persona. How he liked to wear his coat as a cloak and had a definite theatrical way about him. He was a brilliant, and gentle giant!
