Allan was my teacher at Cabrillo College. He was one of the teachers who left a mark in my life. I ended getting a BA in Cultural Anthropology at UCSC after being inspired by him. I was sad to hear about his passing. My warm heart love to the family in this time of grief. May you take comfort in the joy found within the memories Allan left behind. Warmest condolences <3
I am very saddened by the news of Allan's passing. When I had just joined Cabrillo, he immediately made me feel welcomed and included. He had the most sincere concern for his students, passion for anthropology, and the biggest smile on campus. I am truly sorry to hear of the loss of this wonderful person!
Allan was one of the dearest people I have ever known. He was a brilliant teacher, able to move students to think deeply and question widely. He was in love with words, and wrote wonderful poetry. He was one of the key leaders of the Cabrillo faculty union, a man of great integrity and warmth. I knew him as a committed husband, tender, engaged father and grandfather - and as my friend.
Allan, wrote beautiful poetry about his Swedish grandfather who built ships and smoked a deep pipe. His presence with fellow poetry students changed our Cabrillo poetry workshop classroom in Fall 2018, and it was an honor, an enduring memory to work with him and to share his knowledge and wisdom. I'm certain his passing is a good one as his terrestrial journey has been profound.
Allan truly lived his values, showed a good, honest life by example, showed his love for fellow humans and the Earth. I remember the calm he kept during turbulent times on the union negotiating team in the '80s.I remember the courage and integrity he showed in beautiful, honest letters to the Voice. I remember the times he brought baby Anna to union meetings, laying out her little blanket and toys and keeping a careful eye on her.
Dearest LONnberg family - i went to Cabrillo junior College before transferring to UCSC and Rob and Allan were my teachers in the late 80s as I took as much course work in Anthropology as I could. Allan was wonderful! a few years ago I contacted him and emailed him about my studies in Alaska and with the history of our indigineous village dogs. He was so interested and encouraging!
Thank you, dear Lonnberg family, for this memorial and for letting us share our memories of Allan. I've written mine in the Story section. Wishing you all well with gratitude. . .
